EXCERPTS SEMINAR

A project during the Covid-19 Pandemic, hosted by William Shaub and Lauren Roth.

A week of virtual lessons on orchestral excerpts and orchestral audition preparation. Our 2022 Guest Artist was Alexander Kerr.

While Excerpts Seminar applications are now closed, you may contact William Shaub directly for a Zoom lesson or multiple lessons as needed, if you are preparing for an orchestral audition.

Applicants may be young professional violinists preparing for orchestra auditions, graduate students, and undergraduate students. High school students who plan on majoring in music will be considered on a case-by-base basis.

From August 15th - August 21st, Knoxville Symphony Orchestra Concertmaster William Shaub is presenting a one week virtual workshop on orchestral excerpts with Tucson Symphony Orchestra Concertmaster Lauren Roth, with special guest artist Alexander Kerr, Concertmaster of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.

For one week this summer, apply for a course specifically on the repertoire you will be playing for orchestral auditions.

Each day, participating violinists will receive a 50 minute online lesson in the morning and a 50 minute online masterclass in the afternoon. On Wednesday and Friday, we will have virtual group performance classes followed by mock orchestral auditions, featuring all participating violinists.

Participants will be e-mailed a packet in advance which includes the orchestral excerpts to be covered for the week, in addition to guiding materials related to audition preparation.
